The display, which features renowned Polish masters the likes of video artist Katarzyna Kozyra and painter, photographer, and filmmaker Wilhelm Sasnal, aims to show important developments in modern Polish graphic art, painting and video art.

These fresh purchases, made possible with additional funding granted by the Culture Ministry, are to fill in the gaps in the current collection of Polish modern and contemporary art, the director of the National Museum of Warsaw, Piotr Rypson announced.

Among pieces on display are Kozyra’s video Appearances as Lou Salome, Sasnal’s painting Untitled (Polish Man) alongside 12 pieces by Przemysław Matecki made of canvas and paper.

“We buy classics, like [hyperrealist Łukasz] Korolkiewicz, as well as fill in our collection with new masters, like Sasnal and Matecki,” the manager of the project, Izabela Mościcka, said.

Museums have one opportunity per year to request additional funding from the Culture Ministry. (ua/aba/rk)
