First Lady of Polish theatre turns 101

Birthday wishes have been pouring in for Danuta Szaflarska, considered by many the First Lady of Polish theatre, who celebrates her 101st birthday on Saturday.

Szaflarska has appeared in around 80 films and has some 100 theater roles to her name.
Born in 1915, Szaflarska took part in the 1944 Warsaw Uprising against German occupation, relaying messages for the Polish resistance.
She has won a slew of awards, and is still professionally active. She says she is in good form because she loves her work. (pk)
