Winning design chosen for Warsaw mural of David Bowie

A mural portraying the late UK rock star David Bowie could soon grace the Polish capital, following an online competition to find the best design.

Bowie, who died on 10 January this year, named a track on his 1977 album 'Low' after the Polish capital.
'Warszawa' recalls a brief stopover in the city, in the middle of the Cold War era.
“I wanted to express the feelings of people who yearn to be free, they can smell the scent of freedom… but they can’t reach it,” he once said.
The competition was held by an association that has been involved in creating several murals in Warsaw.
The online vote went through two stages, with Wrocław-based architect Dawid Celek emerging as the winner.
Celek's striking design, which features the city's Palace of Culture and Science, is set to adorn a block of flats in the Żoliborz district.
Two crowdfunding initiatives have been started, aimed at collecting money for the mural and neon lighting. (nh/pk)
