Over 250 museums, galleries, churches and other venues across Warsaw will open their doors to the public on 14 May, when Museum Night will be held this year.

In addition to the city’s top museums such as the National Museum, the Warsaw Rising Museum, the Royal Castle and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, visitors will be invited to tour the Presidential Palace, several ministries, Warsaw University which celebrates its 200th anniversary this year, the Muslim Cultural Centre, the Nożyk Synagogue and the ArcelorMittal Steel Mill, which boasts a nuclear fallout shelter dating from the late 1950s.

Deputy Warsaw Mayor Jarosław Jóźwiak told a press conference in Warsaw that the idea of attracting new visitors to a wide range of venues, by offering special programmes on Museum Night, has caught on with Varsovians.

Last year over 300,000 people participated in the event. (mk/rg)
