More than 10,000 people have seen an exhibition of paintings by acclaimed Polish surrealist painter Zdzisław Beksiński since an award-winning film about his life and family hit cinemas.

Fifty of Beksiński’s paintings are on show in an exhibition that opened two weeks ago at a cultural centre in Kraków, southern Poland.

The pieces mostly come from the artist's "fantastic period", during which he produced his most iconic work.

Beksiński’s visibility in Poland grew after a movie titled “The Last Family”, following the last three decades of the painter’s life, opened in Polish cinemas.

The film won the Golden Lions award for Best Film at the 41st Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. (vb/pk)
