The film is based on the true story of the cult Polish surrealist painter Zdzisław Beksiński, his wife Zofia and their neurotic son Tomasz, a talented radio journalist and translator whose hypersensitive personality gives his mother constant cause for concern while the father tries to dedicate himself to his art.

FollowingTomasz’s suicide attempt, his parents start fighting not only for their son, but also for regaining control of their own lives.

Odeon Cinemas wrote: “The 28-year Beksiński saga unfolds through paintings, near-death experiences, dance music trends and funerals”.

The film is being shown in 17 cities, including London, Bristol, Edinburgh, Oxford, Cardiff, as well as Dublin in the Republic of Ireland.

“The Last Family” won the Golden Lions prize for best film at this year’s Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, while Andrzej Seweryn and Aleksandra Konieczna, who portray the Beksiński couple in the movie, received the Best Actor and Best Actress Awards. (mk/rg)
