Easter-themed classical music festival starts in Kraków

An Easter-themed festival featuring renaissance and baroque music begins in Kraków on Monday.

A Polish premiere performance of Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi’s ‘Selva Morale e Spirituale’ will open the Misteria Paschalia festival.
It will be performed by French ensemble Le Poeme Harmonique under its founder and artistic director Vincent Dumestre who also serves as the Polish festival’s artistic director.
The concert will be broadcast live by French music channel Mezzo Television.
Two other of the festival’s eleven concerts will be re-broadcast by the channel.
The festival will also feature a world premiere of the oratorio ‘Il terremoto’ by Italian composer Antonio Draghi, and a concert held in St Kinga’s Chapel of the Wieliczka Salt Mine near Kraków, featuring ‘Stabat Mater’ by Italy’s Luigi Boccherini.
The Festival continues until Easter Monday. (mk/vb)
