The programme of the event, which is dedicated to Wajda, who died in September 2016, includes ‘Ashes and Diamonds’, one of his early films, as well as several medium-length films by students and graduates of the Andrzej Wajda Film School in Warsaw.

The focus, however, is on the latest achievements of Polish cinema, including the highly-acclaimed ‘United States of Love’ by Tomasz Wasilewski and ‘The Last Family’ by Jan Matuszyński.

Among the guests of the festival is the famous director Martin Scorsese, who is known to be an admirer of Polish cinema.

The New York Polish Film Festival, now in its 13th year, runs until 7 May.
