The event was organized in collaboration with Learning from the Righteous, a charity foundation established by educator and writer Antony Lishak, whose latest book, “Stars”, is based on the story of zoo director Jan Żabiński and his wife Antonina.

It was followed by a live question-and-answer meeting with Moshe Tirosh, who was six years old when, together with his parents and younger sister, he was given temporary shelter in the Zabińskis’ villa on the zoo grounds.

He is the only survivor from among some 300 people who are believed to have been saved by the Żabiński couple.

The screening was also attended by Sir Eric Pickles, the UK Special Envoy for Post-Holocaust Issues.

Directed by Niki Caro, The Zookeeper’s Wife stars Jessica Chastain as Antonina and Johan Heldenbergh as her husband.

The film went on general release in the UK last month.
