Success for Poles at Composers’ Rostrum

Another piece submitted by Polish Radio 2, the arts-and-music channel of Polish Radio, ‘L'Atelier de sensorité’ by Szymon Stanisław Strzelec, has been named the “recommended” composition.

Organized since 1955 by the International Music Council affiliated to UNESCO, the Rostrum is an annual review of new compositions offered by public radio stations, members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Zagajewski’s work is scored for cello and ensemble. It was presented in Palermo in a recording by Dominik Połoński and Arte Dei Suonatori, whereas Strzelec’s composition for amplified prepared cello and chamber orchestra was recorded by Aleksandra Lelek and the European Workshop for Contemporary Music.

Musicologist Joanna Grotkowska, who represented Polish Radio in Palermo, described the results of the International Composers’ Rostrum as a success for Polish music.

Zagajewski and Strzelec are among Poland’s leading young composers. Their works picked out for praise in Palermo will be broadcast by EBU-affiliated radio stations. (mk/pk)
