The event, entitled “Sherlockon” will include a discussion panel, lectures, an improvised theatre performance, readings of Sherlock Holmes stories by actors, games, quizzes and an auction of fan art, according to the organisers.

Meanwhile, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s Radio Four channel is airing a series of programs devoted to the English detective, one of the most famous characters in popular fiction.

The Sherlock Holmes phenomenon started with the 1887 publication of a novel about the supersleuth by British writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

“A Study in Scarlet” was the first of four novels about Holmes and his assistant Dr. Watson. Doyle also wrote over 50 short stories featuring the hyper-intelligent detective.

The Guinness World Records lists Sherlock Holmes as the most-portrayed movie character in history.

The BBC recently made a popular TV series starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes in which the stories' original Victorian setting is replaced by contemporary London.
