Pope praises ‘beautiful’ Christmas tree from Poland

Pope Francis on Wednesday praised a “beautiful Christmas tree” from Poland that has gone up in St. Peter’s Square.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church was speaking at a weekly general audience at the Vatican, during which he greeted Polish pilgrims.
The 25-metre spruce in St. Peter’s Square is a gift from the Polish State Forests Authority. It was transported to the Vatican in a convoy from north-eastern Poland.
On Thursday, Pope Francis will attend a ceremony at which the lights on the tree will be switched on.
