Warsaw orchestra on Asian tour marks centenary of Polish independence

The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra has given a gala concert in Japan to open a series of worldwide events marking the centenary of Polish independence.

The programme of Monday’s concert at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall included the Overture for Orchestra by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, the legendary pianist, composer and statesman who lobbied for a free Poland during World War I.
Other treats for fans included Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1, with young Russian pianist Nikolay Khozyainov as the soloist, and Dvorak’s Symphony from the New World.
The event wound up the Japanese leg of the orchestra’s Asian tour, which also included concerts in Hyogo, Sapporo, Nagoya, Niigata and Fukushima.
On Wednesday and Friday, the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by its Music Director Jacek Kaspszyk, will be performing in Seoul, South Korea.
