She is set to perform in Kraków, Wrocław, Warsaw and Katowice.

The programme of her recitals will include works by Bach and Brahms as well as one of the greatest living composers, Poland's Krzysztof Penderecki.

Mutter worked closely with Penderecki for many years and as a special gesture of friendship with the composer, who turns 85 in November, this year she performs several of his pieces in her recitals.

Penderecki dedicated four of his pieces to Mutter, including La Follia which was a gift for her 50th birthday.

Another famous Polish composer, Witold Lutosławski, who died in 1994, dedicated his Chain II and the orchestral version of the Partita to the German violinist. He also wrote for her a short Lullaby as a wedding present in 1989.

Mutter’s launched her international career four decades ago. She has received many honours, including four Grammy awards. (mk/vb)
