The USD 1 million award is presented to an exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession.

Last year, Barbara Zielonka received Norway’s Gullepleprisen, an annual award given to a teacher for the effective use of IT in teaching. She is also the only European teacher to receive the Great Global Project Challenge Grant prize, for her latest project called “The Universe is Made of Tiny Stories”.

Some 30,000 teachers from 170 countries were entered in the preliminary stage of the competition.

Other shortlisted teachers come from Turkey, South Africa, Colombia, the Philippines, the United States, Brazil, Belgium, Australia and the UK.

The winner will be announced during the Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai on 18 March. (mk/vb)
