Some 250 non-governmental officials and political and business leaders have attended a two-day Polish-British Belvedere Forum at London's Mansion House.

The event aimed to address the theme: “The UK and Poland in a Changing Europe: Coming Together or Moving apart?”.

A plenary session devoted to the prospects facing Europe was to be attended by the President of the Centre for European Reform think-tank, Charles Grant, and prominent Polish historian Andrzej Nowak.

The programme also included six panels focusing on foreign policy, migration, Polish-British history, the future of business ties, social change and the situation of the Polish community in the UK in the post-Brexit era.

The forum began on Monday with a reception at Lancaster House hosted by the British minister of state for Europe and the Americas, Sir Alan Duncan, and Poland’s deputy foreign minister in charge of European affairs, Konrad Szymański.

It is the second edition of what is planned as an annual event. The first Polish-British Belvedere Forum was held at Warsaw’s Belvedere Palace last year.

The Polish community in the UK exceeds one million. According to a Companies House register, Poles run over 30,000 UK companies.

Twenty-six of the 100 largest British companies listed on the Stock Exchange have invested in Poland. Among them are Tesco, Rolls Royce, Royal Bank of Scotland, EasyJet and BAE Systems. (mk/vb)
