A long-stalled plan to build a new Museum of Polish History is gathering momentum, with construction work finally under way in Warsaw, the country’s deputy culture minister said on Wednesday.

Jarosław Sellin said that, after years of delay under the country’s previous governments, the project was now scheduled for completion either next year or in 2020.

The new facility, which will be housed in the Polish capital’s historic Citadel complex, will be the largest museum nationwide in terms of exhibition space and the biggest single investment in Polish culture since World War II, Sellin told public broadcaster Polish Radio.

In another project, officials in early March said a museum would be set up in the Polish capital by 2023 to show the World War II story of the Warsaw ghetto.
