The Auschwitz. Not so long ago. Not so far away exhibition, which was originally due to run in the Spanish capital until June 17, has been prolonged until October 7, according to reports.

The exhibition has attracted more than 350,000 visitors since it opened in December, with school students from around Spain accounting for almost 20 percent of the total number.

Madrid is the first stop for what is the first ever travelling exhibition on the Auschwitz concentration camp, which was run by the Nazi Germans in occupied Poland during World War II.

The exhibition is made up of more than 600 objects, including personal belongings of camp victims and of the Nazi Germans who ran the camp. Most of the exhibits come from the Auschwitz Memorial Museum in the southern Polish city of Oświęcim.

The exhibition is a joint project by Spanish company Musealia and an international team of curators, including experts from the Auschwitz Memorial Museum.

The exhibition is scheduled to be shown in 13 more cities in Europe and the United States.
