The event, hosted by the Brooklyn Academy of Music, opened with a screening of Agnieszka Holland's Spoor on Thursday.

The series runs until Sunday and aims to showcase a selection of innovative, boundary-pushing new works by Poland’s leading women filmmakers.

New Yorkers will be able to catch productions such as Małgorzata Szumowska's Mug, Agnieszka Smoczyńska's The Lure, and Maria Sadowska's The Art of Loving.

The Kino Polska: New Polish Cinema series is held every two years by the Polish Cultural Institute in New York together with the Brooklyn Academy of Music, a multi-arts centre in the city's Brooklyn borough.

Fifteen leading Polish productions, both feature films and documentaries, were screened at the 14th New York Polish Film Festival in May.

Some of the best Polish history films ever made were screened in New York in June as part of a worldwide celebration of the centenary of Poland’s independence.
