Warsaw teaches children Polish poster art

Children in Warsaw on Wednesday will be able to take part in a graphic arts workshop to learn about Polish poster art as Poland marks a centenary of regained independence.

Entitled "100 posters for 100 years of independence," youths will be tasked with designing posters commemorating the major anniversary.
The workshops will also teach patriotic values and the Polish nation's fight for independence during more than 120 years of partitions and foreign rule before 1918.
The workshops are a nod to Poland's long and unique tradition of poster art which emerged before Hollywood homogenised movie posters.
The workshops are part of an ongoing Warsaw Youth Festival which Edyta Ołdak, one of the festival's organisers, said was a response to a lack of activities for youths in the capital.
Ending on October 22, the festival will allow youths to try their hand at 3-D printing, visit museums for PLN 1, learn photography, and an array of other activities. (vb)
