The figures come from Poland’s Central Statistical Office (GUS), public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Experts on Thursday – World Sight Day – urged Poles to take care of their eyesight and sign up for eye tests.
Prof. Iwona Grabska-Liberek, head of the Polish Society of Ophthalmology, said nearsightedness has become an epidemic, especially among children and adolescents who spend hours staring at mobile phones, laptops and tablets.
