The event on Monday featured Polish-born pianist Jerzy Stryjniak, who was joined by American cellist Christine Walevska and German violinist Sven Stucke.

The concert included works by Chopin, Henryk Wieniawski and Ignacy Jan Paderewski.

Paderewski was a celebrated Polish pianist, composer and statesman who played a key role in his country recovering its sovereignty a century ago.

Stryjniak told the Polish Press Agency that performing Paderewski’s music was an emotional experience for him.

“In 1992 I had the honour to play his works at a recital which marked the return of Paderewski’s ashes from Arlington military cemetery to a free Poland, Stryjniak said.

Stryjniak studied piano performance in the southern city of Kraków. He is the recipient of many awards and distinctions both in Poland and the United States, where he has resided for many years.

He is a co-founder and president of the New York Conservatory of Music in Manhattan.
