The programme includes Brahms’s Second Symphony and the Violin Concerto in D major with Israeli violinist Vadim Gluzman as the soloist. The orchestra is conducted by its Music Director Jacek Kaspszyk.

Born in Warsaw in 1918 into a wealthy Jewish family, Szeryng started studying the violin at the age of seven. At 15 he made his debut at the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall.

In 1939 he served as an official translator for the Polish government-in-exile in London. He later settled in Mexico, becoming a citizen of that country.

He gave over 300 concerts for Allied servicemen in World War II.

In the mid-1950s he resumed his career, appearing with leading orchestras across the world, including in his native Poland.

He served on the jury of the Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznań in 1967 and 1981.
