Though only recently introduced as a financing option, crowdfunding is becoming more common in Poland. There are already several platforms that enable it and new ones continue to appear.

“Most of the solutions used in Europe and the United States, where it all started, have been introduced in Poland,” Michał Bańka from the Polish Enterprise Development Agency told Polish Radio.

In a majority of cases, internet users choose to support single new projects and are often offered small gadgets or some other kind of reward in exchange.

Recently, one such project broke a record. The idea of relaunching a 1990s magazine named Secret Services appealed to fans so much that the initiators collected 93,000 zloty (about 22,000 euro) in just the first 24 hours and the money continued to flow in later.

“So far we have collected 250 percent of the originally assumed amount and there are still two days left,” one of them, Marek Czerniak, said.

A majority of the projects financed with the help of crowdfunding are from the field of culture and entertainment. IT projects are still only a small part.

Another type of crowdfunding is not project-oriented but offers donors a share in the newly established company.

This type is not as popular yet. However, one such company managed to raise 100,000 zloty (about 24,000 euro) for a 5 percent stake. (kw/pg)
