The sponsorship will cover Poland's ongoing bid to qualify for Euro 2016, and the tournament itself if the team rises to the challenge.

It is the first time that Okocim, which is currently owned by Carlsberg, has acted as official sponsor of the Polish side.

“We're convinced that the values represented by our brand, such as courage, readiness for challenges, particularly to take the fight to the finish, are in keeping with the values which the team will be guided by in the advance to Euro 2016,” commented Piotr Checielewski, marketing director of Carlsberg Poland.

Meanwhile, Maciej Sawicki, Secretary General of the Polish Football Association, has said he is “very pleased that we were able to obtain a sponsor with such a proud tradition, and that has such a strong identification with the sport.”

The brewery was founded in 1845 in Okocim, southern Poland.

Poland beat Gibraltar 7-0 in its first Euro 2016 Group D qualifying match, and it is now due to play Germany on 11 October. (nh)
