Poland's advancement is due both to a lower total tax rate, which was reduced from 42 percent to 38.5 percent, and methodology changes, authors of the report said.

The country does not score well in terms of the number of tax payments or in terms of the time needed to comply with taxation rules.

Polish business owners need to make 18 payments over a year and this process takes up to 286 hours in total.

In the CEE region there is 12.3 payments on the average and the average time needed to comply with them is 176 hours.

“This year's results show a relative stability of the Polish tax system,” said Tomasz Baranczyk, managing partner at PwC's Polish legal and taxes division.

“Recently a number of changes were introduced, such as the electronic corporate income tax form submission system, and they will be reflected in the next report,” he added.

The Paying Taxes 2015 report reflects the situation in 2013. PwC assessed altogether 189 economies in the world in the ranking. (kw)
