Ewa Labno-Falecka, public policy director at Mercedes-Benz, said that her company would be ready to launch the service in mid-2015.

Talks with the capital's authorities are in progress,” she told Polish Radio.

Mercedes-Benz, which is part of the Daimler capital group, plans to offer Smart cars in its carsharing system.

As Labno-Falecka stressed, the company would implement an integrated approach to the system, combining short-term car rental with taxis, bicycle rental and public transport with the help of a mobile app.

The second bidder in a tender announced by the authorities of Warsaw is Italy's Fiat. Its carsharing system would involve the use of the 500 car model.

The aim of introducing a carsharing system in Warsaw is to discourage at least some of the city's inhabitants from using their own cars and, through this, reduce the city's traffic congestion.

Similar systems have already been introduced in various cities across the world, a number of them operated by either Daimler or Fiat. (kw)
