Poles will spend PLN 500 million on books this holiday season, placing literature among the most common present in Poland.
In fact books are the most ubiquitous gifts in 14 of 17 surveyed by international advisory Deloitte.
Ironically, despite the bulging bookcases at home, book reading is dropping in Poland, according to the National Library. As many as 60 percent of Poles did not read a single book over the past year.
Other common ideas for presents in Poland are perfumes and cosmetics.
“During this [Christmas] period, we mainly sell perfumes, because they are considered to be the best gift for Christmas,” Adam Kolodziejczyk, general director of Sephora perfumery told Newseria news service. (rg)
