The Polish economy could be seeing signs of a turnaround with industrial production in December exceeding analysts' expectations.

In December, Polish industrial production rose by 8.4 percent year on year, well beyond the five percent analysts had predicted.

According to data released Wednesday by the Central Statistical Office (GUS), production in December rose in 26 of the 34 sectors which where observed. Increases were noted in the IT, electronics, and mechanical industries.

Month on month, production dropped by 2.3 percent.

These are good figures, but one needs to take into consideration the disappointing figures in December 2013, one expert said.

“If we take into account the seasonally adjusted month-on-month figures, the result is still good. Orders are increasing, there is a marked improvement in the sectors which are strongly related to exports,” BOŚ analyst Aleksandra Świątkowska said.

The expert added that January should bring about an increase of around one percent. (rg)
