“There are no better investments then those in modern and innovative technologies,” Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz said on Monday at a meeting with business owners in Warsaw.

PM Kopacz underlined the need to spend more on innovation in the Polish economy, as well as draw on EU funds for its development.

The conference, which was organised by the Lewiatan Employers’ Confederation, addressed the issue of effective public spending.

Kopacz was quick to point to the new EU budget as a source of funds for innovation, underlining the “record amount” which Poland has received in the new budget perspective until 2020.

The comment comes as Poland has at its disposal almost PLN 500 billion over the coming years from EU coffers.

“We must make sure that most of these funds are used for the undertaking of innovation projects based on modern technologies,” Kopacz said.

“We have to understand that innovative businesses are bound by risk [and that] not all inventions are brought to market and that not all start-ups will be successful,” she added.

“We have to learn that the price of risk – and sometimes failure – cannot be stigmatised and [we should] not penalise innovators for taking risks, otherwise we will be bound to copying and the adoption of proven and safe solutions from real innovators,” PM Kopacz underlined. (jb)
