Dr Katarzyna Kalata is a 31 year-old expert on pension issues in Poland.
She is also the only person to have qualified to the final stages of the contest to find a head for the Institution, which deals with pensions and other social payments.
The test for candidates to fill the position vacated by former director Zbigniew Derdziuk, was held on 7 April.
The 14 candidates had to sit for a test and get over 65 percent of the questions right. Katarzyna Kalata succeeded in correctly answering 70 percent of the questions – the highest score registered.
Kalata has also passed a psychometric test, and the next stage is an oral test.
If she is chosen, she will be appointed by Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz, although this is not a guarantee.
There was only one applicant who had already worked at the Institution.
Before being shortlisted, Kalata was the youngest and least-known applicant, but has now made headlines, with being the top contender for the position. (rg)
