The minister has argued that although the sector has been developing rapidly in recent years, it has not yet reached its full potential.

It is estimated that around 8,000 households offer 85,000 agritourism rooms across Poland, with the most common destinations being the Masurian Lake District and the Carpathian Mountains, which together account for 40 percent of agritourism accommodation.

Last year 612,000 people stayed in such accommodation, of which 7 percent of guests were from overseas.

Sawicki said the campaign would begin in late May.

“This will no doubt encourage people from towns as well as foreign tourists,” he stressed.

The campaign will be co-organized by the Polish Tourist Organisation and the Ministry of Culture, with finalized details released later this month.

However, Sawicki was able to announce that the campaign will focus on five ‘themes’: activities, education, culture, nature and traditions.

The Minister added that during 2007-2014 no less than PLN 5 billion (EUR 1.2 billion) of the EU’s Rural development program went on Polish rural tourism, enabling 30,000 projects. (sl/nh)
