“The Ministry of Treasury informs that it has decided to withdraw from negotiations initiated pursuant to those published 29 October concerning the acquisition of 91.64 percent of shares of Polska Żegługa Bałtycka SS (Polish Baltic Shipping also known as Polferries),” a statement confirmed.
The U-turn “was taken on the basis of Polish law by the Council of Ministers under which the ministry has the right to withdraw from the negotiations without giving reasons.”
Interested parties had included Finnlines, which is owned by the Grimaldi Group.
Polferries was founded in 1976, 13 years before the fall of communism in Poland. It operates services to and from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. (nh)
