The largest group of visitors were Germans (5.74 million), followed by other neighbouring countries (Ukraine, Russia and Lithuania above all), then the UK with 1.14 million, the US 645,000 and France 514,000.

The large number of visitors also translated into higher spending, with foreign tourists spending in Poland almost PLN 23 billion (about EUR 5.5 billion). Americans spent most per capita, on average PLN 3,733, followed by Chinese PLN 3,463, Spanish PLN 2,188 and Norwegians PLN 2,152.

As for Poles’ holiday trips abroad, the most popular destination was Italy, which last year was visited by 652,000. Second place went to Croatia with 545,000 and then Greece with 449,000. (jh)
