"The new technology we are working with Saule Technologies on has great potential to revolutionise the solar market, make it more accessible and universal. Future applications of this technology are almost limitless," said Sawada.

None of the financial details were made public.

"We are proud that after a year of activity Saule Technologies has gained such a major investor. The agreement with Hideo Sawada opens for us access to the Japanese and Asian markets. This cooperation confirms our small steps into entering the global market," said Saule Technologies CEO Piotr Krych.

Saule Technologies was founded by Olga Malinkiewicz, Piotr Krych and Artur Kupczunas. Malinkiewicz developed a low-temperature technology for producing flexible photovoltaic cells based on perovskite, a calcium titanium oxide material first discovered in Russia.

In August this year the company received over PLN 25 million (EUR 6m) financial support from the National Centre for Research and Development.

The signing of the agreement was attended by Polish Deputy Prime Minister Janusz Piechocinski. "I am convinced that the development of groundbreaking technologies for the use of perovskite, by creating a new generation of photovoltaic cells, is an important step towards improving energy efficiency and increasing the use of renewable energy sources," Piechociński said.
