Złoty currency weakening on US expectations: Central banker

The Polish złoty currency is weakening as investors are waiting for a rate hike in the US, the head of the National Bank of Poland (NBP), Marek Belka has said.

In Belka’s opinion, the internal situation in Poland is also bringing down the currency, although this has less of an influence.

“Interest rates will probably will be raised in the United States in June. Therefore, capital is already flowing into the United States from around the world, and the emerging-market currencies – and we [Poland] are classified as such – weaken,” the central banker said. (rg)
