If the UK were to leave the European Union, hundreds of thousands of Poles would be left unemployed while Polish exports could drop significantly, says credit insurance company Euler Hermes in a recent report.

Around a million Poles live in the United Kingdom.

Euler Hermes said: “At least half the Poles working in the UK will lose their jobs. Even less is said about the potential losses [a Brexit would have] for the Polish economy, but they are very real.

"According to estimates by Euler Hermes economists, the losses in the export of Polish food commodities could amount to a considerable EUR 100 million euros per year."

Euler Hermes added that even in the optimistic scenario, if the UK were to vote to leave the European Union, its GDP in 2017-2019 could drop by as much as 2.8 percentage points in real terms. (rg)
