According to Poland’s Central Statistical Office (GUS), the average monthly gross salary in the enterprise sector was PLN 4,252.19 (EUR 969.22). Helped by ongoing deflation, real wages have enjoyed their fastest rise since March 2015.

Wages in June were 2.1 percent higher than in May, while employment was up 0.3 percent on May.

Experts from BZ WBK bank were optimistic about the data, saying the figures confirm “that the Polish labour market is in excellent condition, and that demand for labour is translating into increasing pressures on wages.”

Unemployment in Poland is at its lowest since October 2008. It is thought that part of the increase in employment may have been due to seasonal factors, as employment traditionally increases in the summer months.

Meanwhile, Grzegorz Baczewski from the employers’ Lewiatan Confederation, said that a rapid rise in wages could continue for the rest of the year, with a predicted leap at the start of 2017 due to a higher minimum wage coming into effect. (sl/pk)
