Businesses specializing in civil and water engineering have been hardest hit, having seen a 17-percent drop year-on-year in June.

GUS figures also point to a decline in construction investment, down by 14.9 percent, and in renovation works by 11.9 percent.

The overall construction and assembly output fell by 13 percent in June year-on-year, and by 3.7 percent compared to May 2016.

The outlook for July remains unchanged, GUS analysts say, also pointing to “planned staff reductions, larger in scale compared to June’s forecasts.”

In an official statement GUS released on Tuesday, analysts added that “entrepreneurs expect a drop in prices for construction and assembly works, in line with last month’s projections.” (aba)
