Poles have been encouraged to choose to spend their holidays in their own country because it is perceived as safe, while a growing network of fast roads makes it easier to travel to domestic destinations.

Remigiusz Dróżdż, head of the tourism chamber’s Pomerania branch in northern Poland, said: "For now, Poland is a safe country. Let’s hope it stays that way as long as possible. Security is one of the main determinants in choosing a destination for a break.”

He added: “Motorways and expressways have resulted in an increase in the number of short-stay tourists. This is undoubtedly a factor supporting the choice of the Polish seaside, the Polish mountains, and holidays in Poland as a whole.”

Dróżdż said he did not have precise statistics, but various estimates have pointed to an up to 20-percent increase in tourism on Poland’s northern Baltic Sea coast this summer.
