The result is 15 percent up on September last year. According to the airport authorities, 12 million passengers have chosen the Warsaw airport since the beginning of 2016.

Under a new strategy, Poland's national carrier LOT has introduced 23 new routes from Chopin airport since the beginning of the year.

The airline launched a direct connection to Tokyo in January and direct Warsaw-Seoul flights are to start on 17 October.

Bookings have also started for direct flights by LOT to Newark Airport in the United States. The service is to be launched on April 28.

There will be initially four such flights a week, and five at a later date, in addition to LOT’s daily flights to New York’s JFK Airport.

Meanwhile, the Business Traveller website reported that LOT will launch a non-stop service four times a week between Warsaw and Los Angeles on April 4.

The services will be operated by a three-class jet configured for business, premium economy and economy, Business Traveller said.
