In an interview with the PAP news agency, Tony Housh said that AmCham estimates “that the total pool of direct foreign investment in Poland is in excess of USD 40 billion. Some of that is through European subsidiaries of American companies, so it’s not always easy to calculate the exact amount”.

“I do hope that moving forward with the letter of request with the Patriot missile system will also offer a significant opportunity for industrial cooperation and co-investments by American companies in the defence modernisation sector,” he said.

Poland confirmed plans to purchase the American Patriot missile defence system in September, ending speculation that the ministry might overturn a decision taken by the previous government.

“We have a significant footprint also in the automotive sector, but I think that more importantly, there is a significant investment in research and development both in the pharmaceutical sector and ICT,” Housh said. (rg)
