The new facility in the southern town of Sosnowiec is to open towards the end of the year and will serve customers buying shoes and clothing.

Steven Harman, director of Amazon’s operations in Continental Europe, told the PAP news agency that the new centre would allow the company to meet growing demand from its customers and expand its range of products.

Amazon, the world’s largest internet-based retailer, has so far invested some PLN 3 billion in three logistics centres in Poland, a Technology Development Center in the northern city of Gdańsk and a Web Services Office in Warsaw. It has created 7,000 permanent jobs in this country.

Amazon announced on Monday it plans to increase its European workforce by more than 15,000 this year.
