E-commerce in Poland has big potential for growth, the Rzeczpospolita daily reported on Wednesday, citing the latest Eurostat data.

Forty-two percent of Polish Internet users made a purchase online last year. This is below the EU average of 54 percent.

But in terms of the pace of growth, Poland is at the top of the table, with a 7 percent increase in online consumers compared to 2015.

In an editorial, Rzeczpospolita stressed that e-commerce stimulates much-needed innovation in a wide range of branches as no company can count on success in Internet sales without using modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and the analysis of large data sets.

The daily also pointed to the shortcomings of Polish e-commerce, especially quality of service and long delivery times.
