During a press conference, Szydło encouraged German companies to invest in Poland.

The Polish PM showed Merkel around the Polish stand, which presents technological projects by some of the country's top entrepreneurs.

One of the themes for this year’s edition of the Hannover Messe, the world’s foremost industrial trade fair, is Industry 4.0.

“In Hannover we see many young people who put their heart into their projects and are building a good future for us,” Szydło said

“I hope that thanks to Hannover Messe we will be able to build closer cooperation between Poland and Germany,” she added.

Meanwhile, Angela Merkel said that she is now enjoying the opportunity to get to know Poland from a “completely different side”.

“Many of us were already in Poland, known for its landscapes and its cities, but we don’t know the digital side of Poland too well,” Merkel said.

“That is why I am very happy to be able to take a look at another, not so well known side of Poland,” she added.

“I hope that Poland's presence at the Hannover fair will open a new chapter in Polish-German cooperation and that these contacts will become closer and better.”

In 2017, Poland is being featured as the show’s official partner country. “Polish industry stands out in many different sectors for its innovation and growth, which hold promise for companies and investors around the world,” the fair said on its website.

Over 200 Polish companies are taking part in this year's fair, which runs until 28 April. (rg/pk)
