The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which brings together 35 developed countries, maintained its 2018 forecast for Poland at 3.1 percent.

“GDP growth is projected to pick up to over 3 percent in 2017-18, underpinned by strong private consumption driven by increasing labour incomes and social transfers,” the OECD said in its June 2017 report.

It added: “EU-financed public investment should soon regain momentum, and strong business sentiment and low real interest rates are expected to support business investment.”

The Polish government on Tuesday adopted assumptions for the 2018 budget, which expects the economy to grow 3.8 percent, with inflation at 2.3 percent and unemployment at 6.4 percent.

“The basic factor of growth will be private domestic demand, supported by an expected acceleration in public investment funded by the European Union,” a government statement said, adding that GDP growth is projected to speed up in 2018 from the 3.6 percent expected in 2017.
