The Polish government has dismissed opposition claims that households face higher charges for using water after MPs voted through new laws on water management.

Opposition deputies from the Civic Platform (PO), Nowoczesna (Modern), the Polish People’s Party (PSL) and the Kukiz '15 grouping argued that the move meant a new water tax would be levied on private users, businesses, industry and farmers.
But Prime Minister Beata Szydło from the ruling, conservative Law and Justice party, insisted: "Water prices will not rise.”
The new measures, passed by the lower house on Tuesday, now go the Senate, the upper house of parliament, for debate.
