Poland’s central bank chief has said he expects economic growth to slow slightly next year to between 3.5 and 4 percent.

Adam Glapiński, governor of the National Bank of Poland, said: "I suspect that next year’s growth will be lower than this year’s - this year it is exceptionally high - but still very decent and close to a natural growth rate of between 3.5 and 4 percent.”

Glapiński was speaking after the Polish central bank's Monetary Policy Council on Wednesday left interest rates unchanged, with the reference rate remaining at 1.50 percent.

Glapiński said: "The Polish economy is in excellent shape now. Economic growth is high... but at the same time not too high” and not at a level that would overheat the economy.

Deputy Development Minister Jerzy Kwieciński said earlier this week that he expected the Polish economy to grow by over 4 percent this year.

International rating agency Fitch recently revised upwards its forecast for the Polish economy to 4 percent growth this year, up from a July projection of 3.3 percent.

Meanwhile, in early September, the Moody’s agency strongly upgraded Poland’s 2017 GDP forecast to 4.3 percent from an earlier projection of 3.2 percent.
