The growing figures are largely determined by an uptick in demand for medicine available over the counter, the authors of the report said. This sector alone looks set to grow to over PLN 14 bn in value – PLN 800 million more than in 2016 year on year.

“One of the factors responsible for the growth was a high infection incidence at the beginning of 2017,” reads a report released by QuintilesIMS.

The over-the-counter drugs segment is expected to outstrip the prescription drugs sector by the end of 2017. The latter is forecast to reach PLN 18.5 mln – nearly PLN 600 mln more than in 2016 year on year.

Analysts with QuintilesIMS also said that the subsidised medication segment is on the decline. (aba)
