The attendees honed in on the two countries’ capacity for greater bilateral economic collaboration as well as an assessment of their investment climates.

In a letter to the conference participants, Polish Ambassador to Lithuania Urszula Doroszewska said that Lithuania was an important regional partner for Poland.

In 2016, exports from Poland to Lithuania amounted to EUR 2.5 bn. In the first eight months of 2017, they grew by 12 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, imports from Lithuania to Poland between January and August 2017 outstripped figures from the same period the previous year by nearly 40 percent, Doroszewska added.

The ambassador said that the average Lithuanian purchased twice as many Polish goods as the average German. Only Slovaks bought more Polish commodities than Lithuanians, she added.

Trade between Poland and Lithuania “is likely to exceed EUR 4 billion by the end of the year,” said Krzysztof Januszkiewicz, from the Promotion and Investment Department at the Polish Embassy to Lithuania. (aba/pk)
